No confidence motion against Merces Sarpanch withdrawn

OLD GOA

In an unusual twist, the no-confidence motion against Merces Sarpanch Pramod Kamat was withdrawn by the eight panchas even before the same could be taken up.

Sources informed that the move comes after intervention of a confidante of the sarpanch, in whose presence discussions were held between both the camps and a truce was worked out.

The sources further stated that the warring panchas have reportedly asked that they be taken into confidence in matters related to development of the village.

“Also, it has been agreed upon that the sarpanch would resign after completing his tenure of ten months,” the sources said.

It may be recalled that eight panchas had moved no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Kamat citing that he was not taking them into confidence in development works of the village apart from other reasons.

The panchas included Assis Fernandes, Sushant Govekar, Walter de Souza, Rakesh Faterpekar, Mukesh Shirgaonkar, Suchita Amonkar, Celia Sequeira and Filomena Pereira.

Later, the no-confidence motion which was supposed to be taken up on January 9 was postponed to January 15. However, before that the eight panchas withdrew the motion.
