OLD GOA
Stating that his department has already notified 200 metres buffer zone for Old Goa heritage area, TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane said that no construction will be allowed near the heritage churches.
He further urged people not to be misled by certain elements who misguide.
Rane was speaking at a mega medical camp held at ITI Montfort Institute, Corlim on Sunday.
Speaking at the function, Rane said, “Though the issue is off topic, I want to tell that we will not issue a single construction near Old Goa churches. We have notified 200 meters buffer zone after being given input by MLA Faldessai. Don’t get misled by certain elements who misguide.”
Later, when questioned on the same by The Goan, Rane said that the buffer zone of 200 meters is already mapped and notified on the Regional Plan.
“The TCP has never given any permission but if ASI gives permission for any government project, that’s a different subject but for private people nothing we can give,” Rane stated.
“These are heritage structures that needs to be protected but one needs to understand that if a procedure is followed for buffer zone, then it’s a different issue altogether,” Rane said.
“I am very clear on one thing that we need to protect our heritage structures but at the same time, heritage (interpretation) centre and other things are required in terms of tourist inflow who come to see the Churches and other religious places,” he informed.
“But we have to ensure that there is a buffer zone and before I became TCP Minister it was not notified but today it is notified. Rajesh Faldessai brought it to my notice and it was because of his initiative that we took it in the Board and we took the decision very firmly,” Rane stated.
