Stating that people’s power will prevail in the ensuing panchayat polls, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Monday said that his team has strived to field good and people-friendly candidates in Calangute.

Lobo also said that the panchayat body under him will not send notices or threaten anyone in the village but on the contrary will try to find an amicable solution to issues.

“We will not harass anyone in the village. People will not have to remain in fear of anyone. No notices or threats will be issued to anyone,” Lobo said.

The Calangute MLA was addressing a media conference while announcing his ‘Together for Calangute’ panel for the election of one of the richest panchayats from the coastal village.

Lobo said people wanted new candidates and the panel has provided several new faces who are contesting the election.

He said the candidates are aware of the problems in the village and feel the pulse of the people.

“This is Calangutkars’ panel. We want people to participate in the election and elect new and good candidates. People are supreme and what they want will happen,” he said.

Former sarpanch, Shawn Martins, who is spearheading the election campaign of the panel, informed that they did not believe in issuing threats to their rivals.

“Anyone can contest on any political party. Finally, people will decide and we will have to accept the verdict with all humility,” Martins said.

He said in the past, the panchayat and the local MLA never worked in tandem and therefore the village suffered.

“In the last term we have worked as a team along with the local MLA Michael Lobo and the result in the form of development is there for all to see,” he said.

The following are the candidates contesting in the ‘Together for Calangute’ panel: Paulo D’Souza (ward 1), Chandrakant Chodankar (ward 2), Anushka Kerkar (ward 3), Sangeeta Morajkar (ward 4), Manjit Parsekar (ward 5), Shon Silviera (ward 6), Francisco Rodrigues (ward 7), Suraj Naik (ward 8), Dinesh Simepurushkar (ward 9), Soniya Dabolkar (ward 10) and Filomena Fernandes (ward 11).
