In his written reply, the chief secretary has further stated that the decision with reference to the required penalty will be taken as per due procedure only after the conclusion of the proceedings before GHRC.
The Commission has adjourned the hearing on the complaint, filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues, to March 15.
The Chief Secretary, in his report, has stated that Deputy Superintendents of Police, Serafin Dias and Mahesh Gaonkar, as well as inspector Jivba Dalvi had complained that the food served to the police personnel during the BRICS summit was of poor and substandard quality and that the food packets were unfit for consumption. Inspector Nolasco Raposo had visited the site near Verna Church Cemetery where the food was being prepared and found it to be very unhygienic and in an open space.
The Chief Secretary has further stated that inspector Roy Pereira complained of food poisoning after consuming chicken biryani on October 16, 2016 and that staff deployed at Naval Airport had also orally informed that substandard food was supplied to them.
Adv Aires Rodrigues in his complaint to GHRC last year submitted that the contract for Rs 51.60 lakh awarded to Amonkar Classic Caterers was sub-let to a road side contractor who clandestinely prepared the food in an open place owned by the police department next to the
Verna cemetery.
