Clearly indicating the lack of trust in the TCP department, Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said, “With the attitude shown by the deputy town planner to us, I don’t think there is any point in meeting the TCP Minister, Vishwajit Rane.”
The sarpanch and the villagers were treated with disdain by a hesitant Deputy Town Planner Jaidev Haldankar who gave them a hearing for just five minutes.
“We are tax-payers. He had no time for us but he had time to take a builder’s phone while interacting with us. I was disappointed with the officer. Some person above him must have instructed him to do what he did to us,” Sequeira said.
The President of Calangute Constituency Forum, Premanand Diukar said that the TCP official showed a lot of attitude.
“He’s a public servant. He’s paid by tax-payer’s money. He should have given us time. He only said I will look into it. This attitude of a government servant towards the public has to change,” Diukar opined.
Former sarpanch Anthony Menezes was aghast at the behaviour of the deputy town planner.
“We were shocked of his attitude. He refused to let the media in when we were discussing a public issue. This is not done,” Menezes said.
Former panchayat member and prominent Calangute citizen Clotildes Braganca also condemned the attitude of the officer.
“Such persons should be sacked,” Braganca said.
