An arrogant Deputy Town Planner Jaidev Haldankar had to get off his high horse after relentless journalists forced him to make a statement on the memorandum presented by the villagers of Calangute.
Haldankar agreed to talk to a delegation of Calangute villagers but refused to entertain the journalists who were covering the innocuous meeting with the villagers.
Soon after the delegation of Calangute villagers left the deputy town planner’s office, a section of the Bardez journalists confronted the officer and sought his statement on the meeting. Initially, the officer refused to speak to the media and even moved out from his chair only to be followed by the persistent media inside the office.
He then called up his seniors and after almost five minutes of telephonic interaction, who he later said was his seniors, agreed to give his statement to the media.
“The villagers of Calangute have given a memorandum to the department. We will look into the matter and decide on the issue raised by them,” Haldankar told the journalists. The officer, however, had to face a barrage of questions from the scribes for his behaviour.
