No ticket assurance for Parsekar, Utpal; BJP stresses on party work

PANAJI

With the BJP’s 2027 electoral calculations increasingly bringing questions of old loyalties, returning leaders and ticket distribution into sharp focus, State party president Damodar Naik on Monday drew a clear line between those seeking to strengthen the organisation and those eyeing electoral rewards, asserting that the party’s doors were open to former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Utpal Parrikar, but not to anyone joining solely in the hope of securing a ticket.

In a pointed message amid speculation over the possible return of the two leaders to the BJP fold, Naik said the party would welcome those committed to its ideology and willing to work without conditions, but would not allow individual ambitions to override the interests of its existing cadre.

“Those who believe in our ideology and are willing to work for the party without any conditions are welcome. Our doors are open to anyone who wants to strengthen the party and work for it. But if someone is coming with the expectation of getting a ticket or solely for personal gain, they should not come in the first place,” Naik said.

He said the BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was committed to the principles of Antyodaya and national development, and that ideological unity was essential at a time when, according to him, attempts were being made to destabilise a government that was performing well.

Naik said the party had repeatedly conveyed its willingness to bring together people who shared its ideology, adding that several senior leaders and experienced party members had already been brought into the process. However, he underlined that the induction of new faces would not automatically translate into electoral opportunities.

“The party takes every decision after considering all aspects, including the pros and cons, winning capacity and public perception. It is not that someone suddenly walks in asking for a ticket and the party gives it to them,” he said.

Naik also emphasised that the contributions of long-standing party workers could not be overlooked while making decisions on candidates. He said workers who had stood by the BJP since 2012 had their own legitimate expectations and emotional investment in the organisation, which the party would respect.

“Many people have been with us since 2012. They have their rights, commitments and sentiments. The party moves forward while respecting all these considerations,” he said.
