MARGAO
Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai on Thursday said he had received no communication from the Congress leadership on alliance talks, despite maintaining good relations with Congress counterpart Girish Chodankar.
Sardesai said he could not engage in talks as Congress had suspended discussions with the principal Opposition party.
On Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s upcoming Goa visit, Sardesai said he had no issue meeting him but claimed Goa Forward had not been informed about the same.
Responding to reports of a Congress letter to the Revolutionary Goans Party on alliance talks, Sardesai said he had not received any such communication. “What is this letter written by Congress? Girish has my number and he can WhatsApp me the letter,” he said.
Sardesai said non-BJP parties were positioning themselves for an alliance amid public sentiment favouring Opposition unity to defeat the BJP. “Every party is talking of an Opposition alliance, but are they serious or merely positioning themselves in view of public sentiment? We should not fool the people of Goa. If an alliance is to take place, it will be done respectfully,” he said.
