Eight of the nine panchas in Korgao panchayat have moved a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Swati Gawandi, a firm supporter of BJP and Deputy CM Babu Ajgaonkar.
In their notice submitted to the Pernem BDO, the eight panchas -- Uma Salgaonkar, Abdul Naik, Pramila Desai, Mahadev Palienkar, Uday Palienkar, Samil Bhatlekar, Vasant Desai and Custan Coelho, said that the sarpanch had not taken them into confidence regarding the development of wards.
The sarpanch’s post is reserved for women and it was decided the post would be shared by Pramila Desai and Gawandi for an equal duration. However, the panchas have moved the no-confidence motion against Gawandi before the end of her tenure.
According to sources, all nine Korgao panchas were supporters of Ajgaonkar but were recently seen in contact with ‘Mission for Locals' leader Rajan Korgaonkar.
