Decks have been cleared for the Margao Municipal Council and the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) with the KTC as well as the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) according the green signal for the dumping of inert for back filling at the Margao KTC bus stand.
Disposal of the Sonsodo inert waste at the KTC bus stand was stopped by the Fatorda police last week after a group of activists objected to the waste dumping at the site.
After Margao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes sent a communique to the KTC and the GSPCB seeking permission for the waste dumping, KTC Managing Director Derrick Pereira Neto and GSPCB Environmental Engineer Sanjeev Joglekar on Tuesday gave the signal for the resumption of inert dumping.
While granting the NOC, the KTC Managing Director, however, told the MMC CO that no other hazardous material, except inert, shall be disposed of in the allocated area and that the civic body should take adequate measures for not allowing stagnation of water in the premises.
While saying that proper drainage facility shall be erected in order to allow proper passage of water, the MMC was further told to level the land in question after disposal of the inert.
The MMC was further requested to obtain required permissions, if any, from any competent authority for the dumping.
In his letter, GSPCB Environmental Engineer, Sanjeev Joglekar has said the Board has no objection to backfill inert material inside the KTCL, saying the NOC is limited for the purpose of the “site” in question.
