The second wave of coronavirus has brought India to its knees and has yet again created an international pandemic situation. With the spread of the virus, many families are stuck inside their homes and hospital wards, sick and quarantined. Sirlim Sports Club, an inter-village club, has taken a pledge to help the families struck by the pandemic by offering food and medical services in this time of distress.
“People from all across the country are coming forward to help and we are not far behind,” Oden Da Costa, president of Sirlim Sports Club, said.
After months of being united by a public health crisis that has had repercussions for almost everyone, Sirlim Sports Club is taking up the cudgels to help the community as far as possible. There has largely been a welcome change in the attitude towards Covid-positive persons, a far cry from this time last year when they were treated as outcasts.
Sirlim Sports Club has started the campaign of offering facilities like groceries to the poor 20 people of the village. Sanitisers and masks are delivered at the doorsteps free of cost, said Da Costa.
“So far we have distributed groceries and free fumigation has been provided to the patients who have recovered and infected their houses,” Da Costa said.
The president of the club disclosed that their volunteers are providing medicines and groceries upon request from people and deliver them at their doorsteps of families who are in isolation. He said that they are also providing free doctor consultations on phone and a helpline is active to offer advice free of cost.
A free pulse oximeter and oxygen cylinders and other services are also provided to those infected by Covid-19. “We together can help them in this hour of crisis,” Da Costa said.
