Insisting that they be allowed to transport ore without any break till January 31, 2021, as permitted by the Supreme Court, the truck operators from North Goa have also requested the State government to resume mining activity from February 1, 2021, for the benefit of mining companies and mining dependents.
Addressing a news conference in Honda-Sattari, the North Goa truck operators thanked the State government for making efforts to resume mining transportation.
“The Supreme Court’s order permitting ore transportation in the State till January 31, 2021, will benefit the mining area and mining dependents,” said North Goa Truck Owners Association (NGTOA) President Suresh Desai.
“However, we feel that a total of 98 days is not sufficient to transport the ore and hence, the government should allow the transportation of ore even during Sundays and other public holidays. We will submit a memorandum in this regard to the chief minister.”
“We commend Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for paying special attention to the transportation of minerals and for increasing the rates, which will be of great benefit to the truck owners and mining dependents,” said Desai.
“We wish that mining activity should resume from February 1, as the economy of Goa and the livelihood of mining dependents will improve.”
Others present at the news conference included Sandeep Parab, Mahesh Gawas, Vithal Gawas, Yashwant Desai, Balaji Desai, Shyam Kavthankar, Prakash Gawas and Mahesh Desai.
