Not right to shut HBA scheme abruptly: SBI writes to govt

Bank has also refused to release guarantee of Rs300 crore: GF

PANAJI

Goa Forward party has released a letter written by the State Bank of India officials to the Additional Secretary Finance,  Finance Department, Department Management, Secretariat citing at least 13 reasons why the House Building Advance (HBA) scheme backed by Government of Goa guarantee of Rs300 crores cannot be abruptly closed.

Goa Forward party Employees Forward Convener John Nazareth addressing the press on Sunday alleged that Chief minister Pramod Sawant has been misleading government servants over the HBA issue.

“The bank has clarified that the Net Take Home Pay (NTHP) should be minimum 40% as per norms. The bank has also said that the borrowers should arrange for an inspection of the property before conversion of the loan,” Nazareth inferred.

Nazareth said that with the cancellation of HBA scheme the mortgage that was done with the Govt has to be done with the Bank and the expenses for the Title Investigation Report, valuation Report, Stamp duty has to be borne by the borrowers adding that this will again put the burden on Government employees.

The bank has also refused to release the guarantee of Rs 300 crores stating that guarantee will be released only upon completion of mortgage and other formalities.

The Goa Forward will follow up on the issue, said John Nazareth.
