MARGAO
Public Works Department Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has said there's nothing wrong if the government has plans to supply the extra 30 MLD of water from the Selaulim water project to Ponda taluka, reminding that Ponda taluka was once the major supplier of drinking water to Margao and Vasco.
"We do not intend to take the Selaulim water to Ponda taluka by denying the same to Margao and Vasco. Margao city today receives around 20 MLD of water, while 15 MLD water is provided to Fatorda. We are laying the JICA line from Margao to Borim only to take the extra 30 MLD from Selaulim to Ponda taluka," Dhavalikar said, adding ‘when Margao and Vasco were at one time facing water problems, it was Ponda that was supplying water to these two towns'.
Saying the JICA line from Margao to Borim will be completed by January 31, the PWD Minister said that Borim will get 10 MLD of water after the commissioning of the pipeline along with Loutolim and other villages. "The Margao-Borim water project had to encounter several problems. However, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has resolved all financial issues," he said.
Saying that politicians should not interfere in the construction of the roads, the PWD Minister cited the example of the four-lane Arlem-Borim road, wherein he said the Tembi-Borim road is constructed as per the requirement during his tenure.
"I do not know what happened after me as the Tembi-Arlem road has not been built as per the requirement," he said, adding that it requires political will to execute public utility projects.
