While the TCP Minister had mooted the proposal in a bid to save hundreds of beleaguered bar owners in the commercial capital, fears have been raised by the bar and liquor outlet owners doing business along the Eastern bypass that they would be hit hard if the Eastern bypass is notified as the National highway.
In fact, around 50-plus bar and liquor outlets are likely to be affected if the government goes ahead with the proposal of notifying the Eastern bypass as NH-17, a bar owner operating in the Agalli area told The Goan.
In fact, a delegation of bar owners doing business along the Eastern bypass had called on the TCP Minister to find out the exact proposal he has mooted before the government and to ascertain their status.
“The TCP Minister has promised to give us an audience later this week. We will convey our grievances to the Minister how they business would be adversely affected in the event the Eastern bypass is notified as a National highway”, informed a bar owner.
Sources in the know said that the TCP Minister has already briefed Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on the question of notifying the Eastern bypass as a National highway, adding that the Chief Minister is also not opposed to the idea provided it finds favour with the Centre.
