MAPUSA
The infertility treatment will now be available much closer and free of cost with the launch of the Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) unit at the North Goa District Hospital (Asilo) in Mapusa on Tuesday.
IUI is a treatment for infertility that is less invasive, cheaper and safer.
Senior Consultant, Dr Sarika Arsekar informed that IUI is a fertility treatment where sperms are placed directly into the woman’s uterus which increases the likelihood chances of couples getting pregnant.
“This procedure is relatively less invasive, less painful and safer compared to other fertility treatments like IVF and ICSI,” Dr Arsekar said.
The IUI unit was inaugurated at the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa at the hands of Dr Sunanda Amonkar, Associate Professor, GMC and Dr Rajnanda Desai ex-director, DHS.
Medical Superintendent Dr Vandana Dhume and senior doctors were also present on the occasion.
Speaking further Dr Arsekar said that getting the IUI unit at the district level was a boon to subfertile couples in the State and credited the launch of the facility to the health minister.
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) unit inaugurated at North Goa District Hospital is an initiative started by Dr Rajnanda Desai, which will help us to treat infertility, said the health minister on his Facebook page.
“The laboratory is equipped with state-of-art facilities providing free of cost treatment to Goans,” the health minister said.
