The Regional Provident Fund (PF) Commissioner, Krishna Chaudhary, has informed that all know-your-customer (KYC) related verifications pertaining to employee provident fund (EPF) can now happen through the Umang app.
Until recently, people had to go to the website of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO at epfindia.gov.in) to do KYC for their EPF accounts. But, now, people can complete that process on their smartphones thanks to Umang app.
Download the app from the Google Play Store. Once you tap on the app, you will be able to see EPFO listed with several other government departments. By tapping on EPFO, you will reach eKYC Services. This will help people in doing EPF related KYC on their mobile phones itself.
Chaudhary said, “People will have to enter details like UAN, Aadhar and bank account number. Once these details are entered, their employer will be intimated digitally. Once the employer approves the information entered by his employee, KYC will be over.”
Chaudhary emphasised that it is very important for an employer to attest the details entered by the employee. Otherwise, there is no way for the EPFO to know whether the person seeking details is genuine or not. After KYC is done, people will be able to check their EPF balance, raise claims and avail of other services through their mobile phones itself.
Of late, a number of messages are circulating on Whatsapp saying that people can know their total PF balance by giving a missed call on a certain number through their registered mobile number. Chaudhary said that these messages are not authentic and EPFO is not providing any such service at the moment.
