At\r the launch, Manoj Sinha, minister of state (independent charge) for \rcommunications and minister of state for railways, said, “The launch of \rTarang Sanchar Portal will definitely help in clearing myths and \rmisconception of public on mobile towers and emissions from them.”
Tarang\r Sanchar Portal has useful features like it provides a public interface,\r where mobile towers in a locality can be viewed thanks to an easy \rmap-based search feature. The portal also gives information on EMF \rcompliance status of mobile towers at the click of a button.
Over\r and above this, any person can request for EMF emission measurement at a\r location by paying a nominal fee of Rs 4,000 online.
PK\r Pujari, secretary, department of telecommunications also secretary, \rministry of power, said, “The government is fully committed to protect \rthe health of its citizens. To ensure the same, DoT has prescribed \rstandards for electromagnetic emissions from mobile towers that are ten \rtimes stricter than the international standards prescribed by \rInternational Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) \rand recommended by World Health Organization (WHO).”
It\r was also informed that ‘Tarang Sanchar’ has the complete collated \rtechnical details of over 14.5 lakh base stations (BTSs) spread across \rthe country of all technologies (2G, 3G, 4G etc.) and of all telecom \rservice providers (TSPs).
