Now, Navelim youth’s family members want PSI dismissed

MARGAO
Family members and friends of Edwin Coelho, who was assaulted by suspended police sub-inspector Stanley Gomes leaving his eardrum ruptured, has demanded the dismissal of the suspended cop from service.

Edwin’s family members and friends, who assembled at his residence on Sunday, also demanded to know why the police have to date not registered an FIR against the erring PSI.

They pointed out that the suspended PSI, if reinstated in service, may mete out similar treatment to many an innocent Goan by misusing the police uniform.

Edwin’s parents pointed out that their son was the sole earning member of the

family, adding that his job prospect abroad is now at risk after his eardrum was ruptured after the assault by the suspended PSI.

Saying Edwin was now facing hearing issues after being repeatedly slapped by the erring police officer, his parents and relatives demanded that a PSI, who is having an attitude problem, should not reinstated, but should be terminated from the police department. “Today it is Edwin, tomorrow an innocent citizen can become the victim at the hands of the suspended PSI. It’s better the Goa police order an inquiry and terminate his services from the police department,” they demanded.

Meanwhile, victim Edwin Coelho has moved an application under the RTI seeking CCTV footage of the evidence of entry point of the police station or any cameras where the incident had taken place on November 23.
