Spurred by the whip cracked by the Bombay High Court at Goa recently, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has made it mandatory for organisers of 'open air' events to install online sound monitoring equipment at the venues and to connect these to the server of the board.
Events organised at open air venues and which will cater to 50 people and more are also required to take statutory permissions from authorities to use amplified sound equipment.
GSPCB made this disclosure on Thursday through a 'public notice' in which it stated that all events including weddings, functions, programmes and parties involving more than 50 participants will have to adhere to this rule.
"Public Address System, loudspeaker or any sound producing instrument or a musical instrument or a sound amplifier shall not be used in open areas without the prior permission of the Authority -- the Concerned Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM)," the notice states.
Also, open air venues for marriages, functions, parties, etc are required to install online noise level monitoring systems and connect these to the GSPCB server.
Venues using diesel generator sets are also required to use only those which comply with the provision of the Environment (Protection) Rules of the MoEF&CC, the Board said in its public notice.
