At a meeting convened among tourist taxi unions of Morjim, Mandrem, Arambol and Kerim at Tembawada-Morjim on Monday, the taxi operators vehemently opposed the GoaMiles app.
“No one had demanded an app for taxis, but the State government forcibly brought it into existence. During our meeting, we decided to invite all taxi operators on August 17 to plan our further course of action,” Morjim taxi union president Sanjay Kole told reporters.
“Taxi operators in Mandrem constituency are completely dependent on the taxi business. All taxis in this area earn business only during five months of tourism season and are parked idle in our houses during the remaining months.”
“We have convened a huge gathering of taxi owners on August 17 and MLAs, ministers and political leaders should support us by attending this gathering,” Kole added.
