Kerala Chief Secretary Tom Jose, IAS, has said that the State is getting back to normal after the devastating floods hit the southern state last month, but made it clear that it will take at least one year’s time to rebuild it.
“We are getting back to normal. Most of the people have returned home from the relief camps. However, the government is still keeping some of the camps functional. It is taking all possible steps to rebuild the state,” Jose told the media on the sidelines of the launch of the special trade passenger cruise ship built by Vijai Marine Shipyard built for Kerala Shipping & Inland Navigation Corporation Ltd at Rassaim-Loutolim on Sunday.
He said the state has received financial assistance from the central government, besides help from different quarters. “The government has been distributing compensation to people,” he said, adding that it will take at least one year for the government to bring the state to complete normalcy.
