Text books provided free to students of class I to VIII under the Right to Education Act entitlement are to be left behind in schools at the academic year-end beginning from this year to end "wastage".
Most of these text books given to students remain unused after the end of the academic year and therefore the Goa Samagra Shiksha has taken the decision to ask heads of schools to collect these text books and store them in the classroom to be used by students next year.
A circular issued by GSS project director S S Ghadi said, all heads of government and aided schools are responsible to collect these text books of academic year 2022-23 and store in the respective classrooms to be used by the new students in June.
"It has been observed that most of these books given to the students are remaining unused after the end of the academic year," Ghadi said in his circular issued on Thursday, adding that these books can be maintained in the classroom and reused by the students who study in the class in the successive academic year.
However, the circular which is dated April 6, 2023, has put a question mark on the GSS direction to all heads of government and aided schools as it has come at a time after classes for Std 1 to VIII ended on March 31.
