The nuisance of empty and broken beer bottles dominated the Nachinola gram sabha on Sunday with Panchayat Secretary, Cliffton Azavedo making a strong appeal to the citizens to desist from dumping bottles in public places.

The issue came up after former deputy sarpanch, Deepa Madkaikar grilled the sarpanch and panchayat members about the significance of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.
"We found broken and empty beer bottles and even beer cans dumped at various public spots like park, football ground, below the overhead water tank and at the tollem (pond)," Azavedo said.
"Two rickshaws full of such bottles and cans were collected by the panchayat and dispatched to the Science and Technology dept," he added.
The panchayat secretary appealed to the residents not to create such nuisance and sought public support on the issue. Raising another significant issue, the panchayat secretary said the panchayat had fixed some ‘focus light' at some strategic places during the Chaturthi festival, but most of these lights were smashed by miscreants.
Deputy Sarpanch, Freddy Fernandes informed the gram sabha that some persons were spreading misinformation on the social media alleging that the sarpanch, deputy sarpanch and the secretary were corrupt. "In future, we will not tolerate such misinformation which is defamatory in nature," Fernandes said.
Reacting to the deputy sarpanch's say, Ritesh Kotwale said he had merely forwarded the particular information on WhatsApp.
"We have three types of media. There is print, electronic and social media. I merely put forward my view on the social media," Kotwale clarified.
Raising the issue of the Nachinola Balwadi, Kotwale said the Balwadi was functioning from a small and cramped room which could be dangerous for kids.
"The children need a better place. The panchayat should provide them with bigger and better place to function from," he said.
Sarpanch, Preeti Bandodkar said the panchayat had prepared an estimate on providing new room to the Balwadi kids and sent the proposal to BDO.
"We are waiting for the approval of the BDO office," Bandodkar said.
