The removal of outgoing GPCC chief Amit Patkar and the appointment of Girish Chodankar as his replacement came up for discussion at a meeting of the Nuvem Block Congress Committee held at the South Goa District Congress office on Thursday.

Although South Goa District Congress President Assis Noronha had called the meeting as part of a routine exercise to strengthen the block ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, sources said a few members questioned the decision to replace Amit Patkar without prior consultations. Sources said the district president had no answers to several questions raised by the members on the issue.

When asked by the media about the resentment expressed by some Nuvem block members over Patkar’s removal, Noronha said the matter was not on the meeting’s agenda. However, he admitted that some members had shared their views on the recent political development.   “I told the members that I am not in a position to answer any of the questions raised by them on the matter,” Noronha told reporters.

He said the meeting was convened as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen all Congress blocks under the South Goa District Congress Committee in preparation for the forthcoming Assembly elections.
