Residents of Nuvem are up in arms over the installation of a mobile tower at a traffic junction Gorvotti, saying the tower has been forcibly erected though the site in question has been an accident prone zone.
Addressing the media at the site, a resident Mariano D’Costa pointed out that the mobile tower has bulldozed its way with the tower by overruling the objections raised by the local residents.
Saying the residents are not opposed to mobile towers per se, Mariano has called for shifting of the tower to a suitable site away from human habitation.
Another resident of Nuvem and Congress leader Everson Vales said the tower has been forcibly installed by the company overruling the plea of the villagers not to erect the towers at the accident prone zone.
He said the residents have expressed their strong reservations over the tower in the locality on issues concerning health due to the Electronic Magnetic Frequencies. “This junction is an accident prone zone, where many accidents have taken place. The rule is very clear that towers should not be erected at traffic bottlenecks and hindrances”, he said.
Saying that the Nuvem Panchayat has issued stop order to the tower company, Everson, however, lamented that the company has ignored the order and gone ahead with the work.
He has exuded confidence that the Appellate authority will mete out justice for the residents of Nuvem by ordering the company to dismantle the tower.
Another resident Jose Roque Andrade said, “No doubt, mobile towers help in improving the connectivity, but it posed health issues to the residents inhabiting the locality. IN the fitness of things, the company relocate the tower to a suitable place away from human habitation.
