Save Mhadei Save Goa Movement (SMSGM) has announced its first meeting in the southern most taluka of Goa at Canacona on Monday.

Stating 'Amchi Mhadei amkam zai', and the intended diversion of Mhadei river is affecting also the residents of South Goa, SMSGM activists called for participation in the public meeting called at Old Bus-Stand , Chaudi in Canacona on Monday at 4 pm.

'It's purely because of elections in Karnataka, that BJP governments in Centre as well in our State, want to gift Mhadei waters to Karnataka by denying the lawful Goan rights needed for their survival. This cannot be allowed, lest we are forgetting this government is trying to fool the people of Goa and destroying and killing Goa's future.' said SMSGM activist Vikas Bhagat.

"If the Mhadei water is diverted to Karnataka, not only the talukas in north will be badly affected, but also the water availability at Selaulim  which gets its water from Surla river. Mhadei is a state issue and everyone should jointly show our State's concerns, " he said.

Rajendra Kerkar, who is fighting to protect Mhadei for Goans through ages, will be addressing the public meeting on monday, while Fr Bolmax Pereira, MLA Vijay Sardessai, besides a few other MLAs and leaders will be addressing the meeting on Monday.

Sandesh Telekar, Prashant Naik, Jack Fernandes, Umesh Tubki, Janardhan Bhandari  and Gaspar Coutinho were present and spoke at the press confernence.
