GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar on Wednesday alleged that authorities have been working under the pressure of ministers and were fooling the people on the rectification of attempts to delete voter names in Mormugao constituency.
Speaking to reporters, Amonkar said he along with supporters and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) had arrived to the Dy Collector’s office after Congress received an order from Dy Collector on Tuesday evening, stating that a survey along with field inspection was to be carried out in Mormugao constituency on Wednesday morning at 10 am.
"Mormugao is the only constituency in entire Goa where repeated attempts are being made to delete voter names. We have realised that many of the objectors seeking deletion of voter names were from Maharashtra and Karnataka. One person was already dead long ago but his name was also registered as an objector seeking deletion of voter names,” said Amonkar.
"The Dy Collector issued an order on Tuesday afternoon, directing us to come with our BLAs on Wednesday morning, to carry out a survey and field inspection to verify details and credentials of objectors and those people whose names have been asked for deletion.”
“However, when we reached here, we realised that the dy collector was on leave and after we called him, he directed us to the Mamaltdar. Shockingly, he was also on leave.”
“When a dy collector issues an order with a copy marked to the mamlatdar and both remain absent, why are we called here,” asked a furious Amonkar.
Amonkar said the entire exercise appeared to be a farce.
“Only after the Congress protested over the attempted deletion of voters, the dy collector and mamlatdar merely issued an order for survey to stay legally safe, but in reality there was nothing happening in the field," said Amonkar.
“This is just an eyewash to fool the people. They want to show that they have taken action and called for a field survey only on paper as a legal formality. I have spoken to the mamlatadar now and he has requested us to meet him on Thursday as he will not be available today.”
“I appeal to officials not to work under pressure of ministers and not allow deletion of names because no one has a right to delete the names of voters. These attempts are only to ensure that names of congress voters are deleted, especially from Baina," said Amonkar.
