CANACONA
The Canacona Patrakar Sangh on Wednesday honoured several persons for their selfless and tireless service during the lockdown amid the Covid pandemic.
Among those felicitated at a function in the Shristhal panchayat hall included Pauline Fernandes, Painginkar and Dr Vilas Pawaskar as 'Covid Yodha' for their selfless services during the lockdown in their individual capacities, Dy Collector Satish Prabhu and Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal on behalf of the Canacona administration, Police Inspector Pravin Gawas on behalf of Canacona Police Station, Canacona Community Health Centre medical staff and Biodiversity Management Committee of Shristhal panchayat.
They were all presented with mementoes by Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes.
Senior Journalists Ramkrishna Phaldessai (in absentia due), Subhash Mahale and Santosh Gaonkar (print media) and Babesh Borker (electronic media) were also felicitated for their contribution in the field of journalism.
Later addressing a gathering, Fernandes hailed journalists for their services to society and said the profession demanded hard work, competence and loyalty.
“While providing noble service to society, journalists are often at the receiving end and have to endure not only mental anguish but even physical assaults.”
He lauded the Canacona Patrakar Sangh for recognising the tireless services provided by individuals and government agencies.
The guest of Honour, senior teacher and academician Kamlakar Mhalshi also spoke on the occasion and requested the MLA to ensure that the New Education Policy is enforced in the right earnest.
Canacona Patrakar Sangh President Ajit Poinguinkar, newly elected ZP member Shanu Velip, R Komarpant and Harischandra Kholkar also spoke at the event.
