Goa’s star shuttlers including multiple national medal winner Lydia Barreto, current State champion Tejan Fallary, young sub-junior talent Harsh Mane and other top-ranked players such as Floyd Araujo, Sunny Sawant, Karan Dhavaskar, Tanushree Shadani, Yasmin Sayed, Frederick Fernandes, Yash Desai, Anar Singbal and Sushil Nayak will be in action when the third edition of PBC Pro Badminton League (PBL), featuring 10 elite teams, gets underway on December 19.
The league organised by Panjim Badminton Club under the aegis of Goa Badminton Association and powered by Adidas Badminton will be held at Indoor Stadium, Campal in Panaji. The event will have prizes and trophies worth more than 1 lakh on offer.
“While Covid-19 pandemic may have slowed down few plans and there is uncertainty over the conduct of the Nationals, Goa Badminton Association and its affiliated clubs have set the shuttle moving by organising regular coaching camps and super exciting league tournaments this season to keep players in competitive shape. In the coming days, similar kinds of events are planned in Vasco, Ponda and Navelim which will be a good exposure to our players and a colourful display of games to spectators,” GBA Secretary Sandeep Heble said in a press release.
EBG Gladiators, Fomento Falcons, GTZ Pacers, Nayak Smashers, Neomis Panthers, Panaji Krida Sankul Stallions, Panjim Warriors, Paradise Eagles, Priority Constructions and Shuttlers Club are the 10 teams that will vie for top honours and championship prizes in the exclusive doubles league. 140 players from various categories will be representing the 10 elite teams in all, which includes one senior icon player and one junior icon player in each team.
The two-day league, held in morning and afternoon sessions, concludes on December 20 with several special attractions like quiz, photography and spot contests lined up in the presence of Anura Prabhu Desai, Goa’s star sensation and India international player.
