GPCC Vice president Sankalp Amonkar on Tuesday alleged that officials at the Mormugao Mamlatdar office had been harassing innocent voters who had produced documents to ensure their names are not deleted from the voter list in the new electoral roll.

“Every individual would produce necessary documents like Aadhaar card, election card, PAN card and electricity bills, officials have demanded a notarised NOC from house owners, failing which the people were being sent back,” Amonkar told reporters, while alleging that the personal hearing was being delayed deliberately to keep people waiting for hours together.

“For people staying in rented houses, authorities insist that they provide a notarised NOC of house owner. All other relevant documents were not considered if the notarised NOC of the house owner was not provided by the people," said Amonkar.

"The house owner’s notarised NOC for a person staying on rent is not a compulsory document for this process but officials are insisting for it. It is very clear that they are working under pressure of BJP ministers to benefit the BJP in Mormugao.”

“This personal hearing to verify the credentials of those voters whose names are put for deletion and the verification of objectors is just an eyewash to fool the people,” he added.

Amonkar said the personal hearing was to be held between December 22 and 24, but it had been extended for several days, adding that a lot of time has been wasted in every individual hearing to deliberately delay the process.
