The Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (GSEIAA) has issued a notice to the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) to submit documents pertaining to environmental clearances for the government project along the Mandovi river.
GSEIAA authorities conducted an inspection on Wednesday after acting on a complaint from Joe Gomes, an activist from St Cruz.
In his complaint, Gomes alleged that the structure which is being constructed using reinforced concrete on the banks of the Mandovi river has no EC from the GSEIAA and further claimed the Jetty is causing damage to marine ecology.
The damage caused is irreversible and has huge impact on marine ecosystems, alleged Gomes in his complaint.
"The government has plans to construct a three-storeyed building and beams of building are clearly in the river,” said Gomes.
He said environmental rules should be applicable to project by the government and the common man.
The site supervisor has, however, told authorities that the project has been cleared by GCZMA and the NGT.
