Officials says Kala Mandir inauguration in April
Say only cleaning work is pending

Director of Art and Culture Prasad Lolienkar said the inauguration of Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir at Ponda is possible in the first week of April.
Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has also supported the move by saying that the work has been completed.
When contacted, Lolienkar said the Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir at Ponda will be inaugurated soon. “It is possible to inaugurate it in the first week of April,” Lolienkar said.
When asked whether GSIDC has sent a letter of handover to the Art and Culture department, Lolienkar replied in the negative. “We haven’t received any letter from them, but we are sure that it can be inaugurated in April,” Lolienkar reiterated.
Speaking to The Goan, Sanjit Rodrigues, managing director of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corportation, said the work is completed. “Only some cleaning work is left, which we are doing in a phased manner,” Rodrigues said.
Asked whether they have sent any letter of handover to the Art and Culture department, Rodrigues said it will given at the time of inauguration.
Sources said Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has informed that it will require another 45 days to complete the work.
Interestingly, when Art and Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar visited the Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir at Ponda he announced to inaugurate it before March 14.
Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar told The Goan that Mandrekar wanted to inaugurate it before March 14.
“We wanted to inaugurate it before the assembly session. I feel that inauguration should not be delayed any longer,” Mamledar said.
It may be recalled that Shiv Sena and Ponda Vikas Samiti had staged a symbolic dharna in front of Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir to condemn the government for delaying the inauguration.
