The pre-monsoon rains have shown that the city is still not ready for the monsoon season, with old problems returning over the past two days.

Margao Station Road was flooded despite the authorities clearing the roadside drains. A sewage chamber overflowed on the main road just a few metres from the South Goa district hospital.

During the monsoon, it is common to see sewage chambers overflowing like fountains in the commercial capital.

Residents of Fakir Bandh, a locality mostly inhabited by migrants, felt anxious on Wednesday morning as floodwaters rose to dangerous levels.

Relief came only after Margao MLA Digambar Kamat arranged for a JCB to clear the storm water drain, which helped the water recede.

Margao Old Station Road is a well-known spot for frequent flooding. This year, there was hope that the road would stay dry after the authorities cleared the drains. Unfortunately, the flood returned as usual, causing trouble for both locals and tourists.
