The annual problem of the Mandovi river flowing over the ferry ramp returned to haunt the islanders of Divar, as ferry services along the Old Goa-Divar route were suspended for a few hours on Saturday afternoon.
The locals who had approached to cross the river from the Old Goa-Divar route had to return and travel all the way to the Ribandar-Divar route, where a huge queue of vehicles awaited.
Speaking to The Goan, a local informed that the incident is an annual occurrence when the Mandovi river swells and flows over the ferry ramp on the Divar side, forcing the stoppage of the ferries along the Old Goa-Divar route.
“The ferry services along the route are made operational only when the river water level recedes to allow docking of the ferries at the Divar ramp,” the local informed.
“The locals have been facing the problem since Friday,” the local added.
