Old market wears festive look as Margao celebrates Immaculate Conception feast

The Old Market area wore a festive look on the occasion of the feast of Immaculate Conception at the Holy Spirit Church, with the fair returning back to the area for the first time after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the State in March last year.

While the feast of Immaculate Conception was celebrated with pomp and religious fervour, with hundreds of devotees attending the masses at the Holy Spirit Church in the morning. A procession was taken out around the church square.

The Old Market area wore a festive look with traders and hawkers setting up stalls at the Old Market area, indicating that the fair has returned back to the area after a gap of more than a year.

While the traditional kadio bodio and grams stalls came up along the Colva road near the Old Market circle, dozens of stalls were put up on the Municipal parking acquired land.

The SGPDA ground also returned to its normal bustle as the PDA accorded permission for the Goan carpenters to set up their stalls on the PDA ground. A number of other stalls also made their presence felt on the SGDPA ground.

Day one of the fair saw hundreds of people descending at the Old Market area to make purchases. The Old Market feast fair used to usually draw crowds from Margao and the neighbouring villages of Salcete.
