Once an artist, always an artist, says minister

Minister for Arts and Culture Govind Gawade on Saturday said a person who becomes an artist is an artist for life, adding that music is eternal and does not differentiate between caste or creed.

He was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the Rs 1.04 crore community hall for the Shri Mallikarjun Kala Krida Bhajni Mandal near the Shri Mallikarjun Temple in Shrishthal, in the presence of Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes and Shrishthal Panchayat Sarpanch Pandurang (Datta) Gaonkar.

The SMKKBM’s existing 75-year-old structure will be demolished to erect the new community hall.

The minister also advocated the need to have one library in each village to bring about awareness.

He congratulated the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Shri Mallikarjun Kala Krida Bhajni Mandal (SMKKBM), was set up 74 years ago on October 16, 1947.

Fernandes lauded the government led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for delivering in development despite various adversities during the Covid pandemic.

On the occasion, the SMKKBM felicitated ward Panch Vidhya (Sonam) Gayak for ushering in projects worth Rs 60 lakh and for being instrumental in getting the government to sanction the Rs 1 crore community hall for the Shri Mallikarjun Kala Krida Bhajni Mandal.

Others who spoke on the occasion included SMKKBM President Sarvesh Hede, Kamlakar Mhalshi, Shri Mallikarjun Devalaya President Rajendra Dessai and Shrishthal Sarpanch Pandurang (Datta) Gaonkar.

Others present at the event included Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Sachin Naik, Panch Nishant Prabhudessai, Gaondongrim Sarpanch Suman Gaonkar, Shrishthal panch members Devendra Naik, Ramu Naik and Ganesh Gaonkar.
