One acquitted of murder
MARGAO: Citing lack of concrete evidence, Additional Sessions Judge, PV Sawaiker acquitted one Seby Moraes (33) from charges of murder of one Gayas Shaikh.
The incident had occurred on July 19, 2014, when there was an altercation between the suspect and the deceased over some financial matter which had led to the murder of the deceased. The charges against the suspect were that he had severely beaten up the deceased due to which the latter had succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was absconding thereafter but was later arrested on September 23, 2014.
He was released on a bail bond of Rs 50,000.
The prosecution had established the claim that the body of the deceased had 17 injuries on it. However, in view of inadequate evidence as also some of the witnesses allegedly turning hostile, the suspect was acquitted of the charges against him.
