One arrested for death of pillion rider in Chimbel hit-and-run case

A person was arrested on charges of driving in a rash and negligent manner and causing the death of a pillion rider in a hit-and-run case at Chimbel on Sunday night.

According to Old Goa police, two brothers from Xirent-Chimbel were proceeding home on a scooter when it was hit from the rear by a car near the IRB Camp, along the Kadamba bypass road.

After the accident, the driver of the car Satish Hiranwale (42) of Sangolda fled from the scene leaving behind the two brothers lying injured on the road.

One of the brothers Kaushal Bandodkar (25), who was riding pillion, succumbed to injuries while being taken to the GMC hospital for treatment. The other brother is undergoing treatment.

The Old Goa police then launched a manhunt for the vehicle and it was traced in a forest area of Sangolda.

The police arrested the accused driver Hiranwale and also detained the car involved. Offences have been registered against the driver under sections 297 and 304-A of IPC and section 134 (a) (b) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Old Goa LPSI Manisha Mardolkar is conducting further investigations into the matter.
