A person was caught red-handed dumping garbage along the road leading to Corlim Primary Health Centre (PHC) and was asked by panchayat authorities to clean the entire area.
Speaking to The Goan, Corlim Sarpanch Baptist Pereira informed that the person was caught dumping the garbage on Tuesday night by the monitoring team which monitors the blackspots in the village.
“On Tuesday night, we found one person dumping garbage and we found out that the person was not resident of Corlim but of neighbouring Old Goa,” Pereira said.
“The person was called on Wednesday morning and made to clean the entire area as a punishment. Since this is the first person to have been caught dumping garbage, we told him to only clean the entire area as a punishment but henceforth, anybody found dumping waste will be made to clean the area and fined as well,” warned Pereira.
The sarpanch further blamed people from neighbouring villages for dumping waste in Corlim.
“From today’s incident, it is becoming clear that people from other villages are dumping waste in Corlim,” Pereira stated.
“The panchayat is collecting waste door-to-door and the villagers should give their waste to the waste collectors,” Pereira appealed.
Panch Goraknath Kerkar was also present.
