MAPUSA: Several councillors pointed out that the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has failed to keep the city clean, and the steps taken by the civic body seemed to be not working.
They appealed to the chairperson something more concrete has to be done then just organising a night awareness raid.
Councillor Kayle Braganza informed that the council grabbed headlines last December by undertaking sudden inspection of black spots in the night and issuing fines against people caught dumping waste in the open, but the situation has hardly changed on the ground and on the contrary it has become worse.
“The number of black spots has increased in my ward even as the civic body has failed to lift garbage on time. What is the level of improvement vis-Ã -vis cleanliness in the city? Mapusa has become a dirty town,” Braganza lashed out.
Seconding her, councillors Sudhir Kandolkar and Tarak Arolkar said the civic body has failed to keep the city clean.
Councillor Tarak Arolkar informed that door-to-door garbage collection was not happening properly in his ward 7.
He said the workers deployed to collect waste were irregular and also skipped several flats in residential apartments.
He further disclosed that only four workers were deployed for the job and could not cover the entire ward.
