Porvorim Police have arrested Shyam Chandrakant Bagli, resident of Chavdewada, Parcem, Pernem for cheating and breach of trust.
As per information given by Police Inspector Anant Gaonkar of Porvorim Police Station a complaint was lodged by Alfred Fernandes and his wife Arlette Carvalho residents of Calangute stating that they had paid Rs 2,48,30,000 for buying land from the accused Shyam Bagli.
However later it was revealed to them that the accused person had falsely represented himself as the owner of land in Siolim through some papers and cheated them. The entire transactions happened from 2019 till 2021. The property was shown to be situated in Siolim, Bardez Goa. Further upon registration of FIR, the accused person remained absconding and applied for anticipatory bail in court. However police objected to the bail and ultimately it was rejected and accused person was placed under arrest under sections 419, 420, 406 IPC.
Police have obtained 3 days custody through remand and are in the process of recovering the money.
Accused Shyam Bagli is a habitual offender and has 3 cases registered against him and has been also convicted in a rape case earlier, police said.
PSI Sitaram Malik is investigating under the supervision of SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe.
