CURCHOREM: A resident of Betiabhat-Diao, Quepem, was arrested on charges of killing a cat with a firearm at Betiabhat-Diao on Wednesday.
Police have recovered the firearm. The accused was later released on bail.
Sources from Quepem Police informed that Shantabai Naik of Betiabhat-Diao complained that the accused, Periton Rebello, allegedly cruelly shot dead a cat with a firearm without any reason and when she inquired, the accused threatened her of dire consequences.
Sources said on the direction of Quepem PI Pravin Gawas, the accused was arrested and the firearm was recovered. Later, the accused was released on bail.
Quepem Police registered the offence for committing cruelty and atrocities on animals under Sections 336, 428, 323, 504, 506(ii) r/w 34(IPC). Head Constable Rohidas Gaonkar is investigating the case.
