The election office of AAP candidate for Cortalim, Olencio Simoes was inaugurated by Dr Marconi Correia and blessed by Fr Luis Alvares of Our Lady of Health Church - Sancoale, in Sindolim at Sancoale on Wednesday.
Activist Dr Corriea and confidant of late Matanhy Saldanha, Sancoale coordinator Santan D’Souza, Cortalim coordinator Angela Telles and Adline Lawrance, Quellossim coodrinator Manuel D’Silva and others were present for the inauguration.
Garlanding the Kala Bhavan at Cortalim, Olencio Simoes charged at the previous Congress government, as well as the current Cortalim MLA for encouraging 'white elephants' in the constituency.
“This land of 30,000 sq mts was donated to the Sancoale Panchayat by the Sancoale Comunidade, for upgradation of playground. However in 2008, GIDC in connivance with the then Congress MLA illegally built the Kala Bhavan costing over Rs 40 crore without taking the consent of the comunidade. The land was allotted for a playground and since it did not meet the purpose, it should have been reverted back to the Sancoale Comunidade. This is a mega scam,” alleged Simoes.
He further said: “This is a joint venture scam of the BJP and the Congress and hence AAP demands a CBI inquiry. We demand that the Kala Bhavan which have been used for all sorts of anti-social activities for the last 9 years be put to good use as Rs 40 crore of the tax payers money has gone down the drain.”
Dr Corriea lamented that the local MLA and Minister of Museum, Alina Saldanha was only laying foundation stones in Cortalim constituency to fool the people.
“Not a single project where foundation stones have been laid are complete. The people of Cansaulim-Velsao-Arrossim are facing intense hardship as the current health center was demolished and not yet built in Cansaulim.”
“Many people have lost their lives due to the negligence and sloppiness of the current MLA. Till date, the minister has only laid foundation stones at Cansaulim hospital, market complex at Cortalim, market complex at Zuarinagar and so on. People of Cortalim are only looking at foundation stones which are fit to put in museums.”
“None of the demands placed before the BJP by late Matanhy Saldanha prior to joining the party in 2012 have been fulfilled. Infact the government have mocked the soul of late Matanhy Saldanha. Saldanha has failed on all grounds, thereby destroying the legacy of late Matanhy Saldanha,” said Dr Marconi.
Santan D’Souza said: “The people of Sancoale have decided to support Simoes as he has promised logical solutions to all major issues concerning Sancoale. We are confident that a dynamic young leader like Olencio will do as promised, as he has the zeal and determination to work like no other candidate in Cortalim”.
