Speaking to The Goan, Santosh Gawade, nephew of the injured Tukaram Gawade, said the incident took place in the afternoon when his uncle was sleeping in the verandah.
“He was sleeping in the verandah. The debris fell on him and we removed him. He sustained injuries and was rushed to primary health centre at Betqui,” Santosh informed.
The mud house which collapsed is about 100 years old and the occupants had shifted to the other house, fearing it would collapse.
Priol MLA and Minister for Art and Culture, Govind Gaude who visited the site, told The Goan that he will help the families by obtaining aid from the government.
“I have already directed the departments concerned to help the families. The aid will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and under natural calamities,”
Gaude said.
Fire brigade personnel from Ponda rushed to the site and took stock of the situation.
