Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said one institution per taluka will be developed as a university campus as part of the New Education Policy (NEP).
Addressing the staff felicitation programme in the MES college on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of MES, Sawant said the MES college was instrumental in creating human resources not only for Goa but also for the nation.
“Among their ex-students, we have two cabinet ministers and even a governor. Anna Joshi was a visionary and started an institution way back in 1971 in his own premises at a time when people gave up hopes of graduating because proper educational facility, hostel faculty and transport facilities were not available.”
Sawant said the MES college is probably the only college in the country to offer a BBA course in shipping.
"We have successfully got the first maritime cluster in Goa and students passing from here have a good future in the maritime cluster. We have a lot of natural resources that we are trying to put to the advantage of the State and its youth. We are on discussions on the Blue economy to boost industries that includes shipbuilding, fish processing, fish exports, etc," said Sawant.
Sawant said the initiative of a "KG to PG" was worth a consideration.
"We welcome such ideas and appeal to people to bring about any other innovative ideas with our education department as well, so that it can be put to good use. As per our New Education Policy, we will have one such institution per taluka which will be developed as a university campus," said Sawant.

MES society moots concept of
KG-PG under single institution
VASCO: The Murgao Education Society (MES) on Monday requested the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to consider concept of "KG to PG" to impart education under one single institution.
Speaking during the staff felicitation programme in the MES college on the occasion of the society competing its 50th anniversary, MES Vice Chairman Paresh Joshi said the MES had taken up a concept of "KG to PG” wherein a student would be a part of the institution right from kindergarten to post graduation.
"We already have higher secondary, graduation and postgraduation classes here and now, we want to have kindergarten, primary and secondary section as well so that a student who enters KG will leave from this institution after his post-graduation.”
“Once a student arrives here, there will be no issues of changing schools all the time and they will automatically get admissions in same institution right from KG to primary to secondary to higher secondary to college and even post graduation,”said Joshi.
Joshi said there was sufficient space for the plans with the MES society.
"A school can be housed even in one building if required and we already have a huge campus with library and playground facilities. We need the cooperation of society and the government in the form of permissions. We already have philanthropists ready to help us," Joshi added.
