The government has received 1462 applications from Mayem residents to settle their cases. Only 78 applicants have been granted provisional sanads under Goa (Abolition of proprietorship, titles, and grants of Lands) Act 2014 (Goa Act 8 of 2014).
Verification and hearing is underway for 1370 applications.
The information has been provided by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to a question in the Assembly.
The CM has assured that the applications will be disposed off as early as possible.
As per information provided in the assembly, some sanads have been challenged before the administrative tribunal.
Sixty-one such litigations are pending in the administrative tribunal pertaining to evacuees properties.
There is one litigation pending in the high court.
Almost the entire Mayem village admeasuring 3373 hectares with around 2500 houses is evacuee property.
The evacuee issue has been pending for the last 58 years.
In a bid to provide ownership of right to Mayem villagers during the tenure of late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the government has enacted a law “ Goa (Abolition of Proprietorship, Titles and Grants of Lands) Act 2014.
Following the enactment of the Act, applications were received from the residents and farmers of the Mayem evacuee property.
Government has issued provisional declarations to occupants and the procedure of issuing sanads is
going on.
It is interesting to note that there is evacuee property in other parts of state also.
Around 1.64 crore sq meters land belonging to the evacuees of Goan origin is being looked into by a custodian in the state since 1964.
