AAP had, up until this point, not struck the right chord with Goemkars, who preferred to vote in national parties BJP and Congress, both for the Lok Sabha, and the State Assembly elections. Even the AAP’s Panaji candidate Valmiki Naik, did not score any brownie points with Panjimites this bypoll, where votes for him dropped by a large margin to less than 500, and then Congress candidate Babush Monserrate emerging victorious.
And while it may look like the party stands no chance in the State, AAP leaders and volunteers are not to be perturbed, with the party all set to change its strategy in the State, following the change of heart of altogether 13 Congress MLAs since the 2017 elections!
An AAP leader told “The Goan” on Tuesday that in light of the recent political developments that shook Goa last week, Goa desk in-charge Durgesh Pathak is in Goa to hold meetings with AAP leaders and volunteers, even though there is no election in sight. This time round, the AAP intends to go door-to-door from now itself and convince people that there is no difference between voting for either the Congress and the BJP, and that Goa needs an alternative.
On Tuesday morning, Pathak met around 35 volunteers from North Goa. Today, he is set to meet double the number of volunteers in South Goa. A leader present at the North Goa meeting said that Pathak advised the volunteers to work at the grassroot level. They were advised to go door to door and meet people at a personal level, and to plan well ahead.
“We hope that this time, people will realise that there is no difference voting for the Congress and the BJP, and will give the AAP at least one chance to prove that they can make a difference,” said the leader.
