After the end of the 24-hour suspension, the seven opposition MLAs trooped inside the House during the Zero Hour and continued to demand an assurance from the Speaker to allow discussion on the Manipur violence issue on the floor of the House.
The opposition MLAs also rushed to the well of the House protesting against the denial of listing their demand for discussion.
“Our private members resolution was not allowed to be listed. The Supreme Court has taken serious cognisance of what is happening in Manipur. Do we want to repeat it in Goa? It looks like this government is not serious. We want a discussion on Manipur. Let CM say that he wants to discuss it,” said Yuri Alemao, Leader of Opposition.
The ruling benches led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and PWD Minister, Nilesh Cabral opposed the demand.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that although the CM has condemned what is happening in Manipur, a discussion was necessary as even the SC has said that what is happening in Manipur was bigger than Nirbaya.
“The collective conscience of the nation is in shock. We are only asking for a discussion. Give it any time you feel fit,” Sardesai said.
Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar said the opposition can take up the matter during the private members bill on Friday but refused to give an assurance to allow discussion in the matter.
The opposition members then rushed to the well of the House demanding an assurance from the Speaker or the CM to allow discussion on the issue in the House.
Finally, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant suggested that the opposition hold a discussion on the issue with the Speaker in the foyer and assured to remain present for the meeting.
The logjam finally ended on the CM’s assurance after almost five minutes of disruption.
