Chain snatcher nabbed, accomplice absconding

Involved in around 10 cases of theft and chain snatching, Faizan Sayyad was on Tuesday nabbed by a joint team of Crime Branch and Bicholim police while he attempted to snatch a chain from a woman.

As per details shared by Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Nidhin Valsan, the 24-year-old youth from Curtorim was found moving in the Navelim-Surla area on a Pulsar Motorcycle with his associate, attempting to commit a crime. However, the rider escaped, leaving behind Sayyad.

"A black colour scarf was found in possession of the arrested accused. Sayyad confessed his involvement in a snatching incident which occurred on July 27 at Mulgao in Bicholim," he said.

Sayyad was even then accompanied by his associate - whose identity has been kept under wraps - wherein they snatched a gold mangalsutra from an old lady. The value of the stolen property is around Rs 55,000.

The accused has further confessed to have committed similar crimes in the past.

"The past history of the arrested accused person has been verified wherein it is learnt that he is involved in series of theft cases registered at Margao, Maina Curtorim, Sanguem, Verna, Curchorem, Fatorda and Crime Branch. A search for the absconding associate along with stolen property and the bike used for the commission of an offence is on," the officer said.
